A T-1 is a digital communications pipeline that is divided into 24 different channels. It connects your office computers directly to the Internet, bypassing intermediary switching stations. This direct connection is what allows for consistent, very high-speed access and performance. When dedicated for Internet services, all 24 channels are used for pulling information down from the Internet (downstream) and sending information up to the Internet (upstream).
